Don’t Float If You

  • Recently dyed your hair.  It must be washed enough to no longer leave residue in water, or on towels (typically 5 washes or 2 weeks)

  • Are under the influence of drugs, or alcohol

  • Have received a spray-tan in the past 48 hours. It must be washed enough to no longer leave residue in water, or on towels (typically 5 washes or 2 weeks)

  • Are in your third trimester of pregnancy and not yet checked with your doctor about floating

  • Have epilepsy that is not medically controlled

  • Are not able to enter and exit the float tank on your own (unless you bring your own assistant)

  • Have a large open skin wound (seriously, it will not feel good)

  • Have gotten a tattoo in the past 4-6 weeks

  • Have a new piercing in the last 1-3 months that may be submerged

  • Have waxed and/or shaven in the last 24-hours (as this will sting)

  • If you experience vertigo, epileptic conditions, sea-sickness or have kidney disease (magnesium is processed through the kidneys), please consult with your physician before floating.

Floating FAQs

Is floating new?

No!  The first float was in 1954 to study the effects of sensory deprivation.  Floating is still used to this day in research projects, including brain research.

How long is a session?

A typical session at Sirona Wellness Spa is 60-minutes but you may exit early if you choose.

Are there showers?

Each float room is equipped with a shower supplied with towels, shampoo and body wash. We require a shower prior to getting into the float cabin using ONLY body wash and shampoo. You will also take a second shower after your float to rinse off all the salt. At this time you may use the provided conditioner.

What temperature is the water?

The temperature of the water in the float cabin is around 95° Fahrenheit.  This mimics the average temperature of your skin, and after a few minutes of floating your body will almost feel like it’s floating in space rather than in water.  It’s the perfect temperature, not too hot, not too cold!

What should I bring?

If you have somewhere to go after your session, bring a hair brush and any sort of personal care items you wish.  Our vanity room is set up with hair dryers and mirrors for getting ready.

Should I wear a bathing suit?

Most people feel more comfortable floating in the nude, but if a swimsuit is more your style than go for it!  You’ll have total privacy and the room to yourself. We just ask that you please bring a clean swimsuit.

Are there any side-effects?

Rarely, clients can experience nausea while in the float tank. Those with vertigo, epileptic conditions, those who experience sea-sickness or have kidney disease (magnesium is processed through the kidneys) should take extra precautions and consult their physician before floating.

Is there an age requirement to float?

Minors between the ages of 14-17 yrs old require the signature of parent or guardian upon check-in. Floating is not suggested for children under the age of 14 yrs old.

Can I float if I’m pregnant?

Absolutely!  Many expecting mothers take advantage of the benefits of floating while pregnant.  Please consult your healthcare provider if you have any major concerns or if you are in your third trimester.

Can I float if I’m menstruating?

Yes, it is okay to float while menstruating. Think of it like going to a swimming pool while on your period.

What if I’m claustrophobic?

Our float cabins are very spacious rather than an enclosure.  You have total freedom to keep the lights on, turn the music on or off and exit the cabin at any time.

What if I have extensions, protective styles, or fresh hair color?

It is best practice to float right before styling or restyling your hair. You are more than welcome to float with extensions or protective styles at your own risk. The salt in the water may have an adverse effect on any glue, tape, metal or beads in your hair. You are more than welcome to bring a swim cap but we can not guarantee it will be effective. If you have recently colored your hair we require waiting at least two weeks or five washes before scheduling your float appointment to ensure there is no color leak in the water. There is a $200-$800 re-salting fee to replace the water in the float cabin.

How often can I float?

Just like any self-care routine, consistency is the key!  Float as much as often as you’d like depending on your needs.

Do I have to keep the lights and music off?

You’re in complete control.  Our music is generated to aid in complete relaxation, but you have the option to turn the music completely off if you’d like to experience the benefits of sensory deprivation, or keep the lights on if you prefer.

Is this water clean?

Absolutely! The float solution filters through multiple sanitation cycles using UV light and automatic hydrogen peroxide dosing in between clients. The water is tested daily for adequate levels of hydrogen peroxide.
